A British study found that people who suffer from allergic diseases are less likely to get infected with the Corona virus.
According to the British Daily Mail, researchers from Queen Mary University of London, after studying data on more than 16,000 adults in the United Kingdom between May 2020 and February 2021, found that people with allergic diseases such as hay fever and eczema were about 25 percent less likely to contract the virus, while those with asthma were less likely to contract it. By about 40 percent, even if they used steroid inhalers.
The researchers asked the participants to provide information about their age, weight, dietary lifestyle, and whether they were taking any medications or if they had been vaccinated against corona, and 446 participants tested positive for the virus during the study period, or approximately 3 percent of the participants.
The researchers adjusted for demographic and socioeconomic factors that may increase the risk of contracting the coronavirus and found that among those with "hypersensitive" atopic diseases such as eczema and dermatitis caused by allergens, as well as those with hay fever or rhinitis had a lower risk. There was a 23% lower risk of infection, while for patients with asthma there was a 38% lower risk of infection.
