Lebanon's Information Minister resigned yesterday (Friday) following the diplomatic crisis that erupted with Saudi Arabia over his remarks about the war in Yemen.
Minister George Qardahi said he put the country before the personal interest, hoping that the forthcoming visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Riyadh would lead to an end to the tensions.
Saudi Arabia has expelled the Lebanese ambassador, returned the ambassador from Beirut and banned the import of Lebanese products following the words of Karadhi, a former TV presenter.
Its neighbors, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait, have taken similar steps.
Riyadh said his comments were a symptom of the bigger problem - a Hezbollah-backed Iranian grip on Lebanon.
Lebanon is one of the focal points of the regional influence war between Sunni Saudi Arabia and Shiite Iran.
The current crisis with the Gulf states caught her during an acute economic crisis and she is desperate for financial aid.
