The police received a report on Wednesday (1st) that two Chinese men visited a restaurant in Kowloon City that afternoon and claimed to be members of a triad society, demanding protection money.
There was no loss to the restaurant in the incident.
The Kowloon City Police District Anti-Triad Action Team arrested a 23-year-old man surnamed Zhang in the Kowloon City District tonight (4th) on suspicion of claiming to be a triad member and extortion.
He is currently being detained for investigation.
The police operation is still in progress, and it is not ruled out that more people have been arrested.
The police stated that anyone who has witnessed the incident or has any information to provide is urged to contact the Anti-Triad Action Team of the Kowloon City Police District at 36617861.
The police reiterated that they adopted a zero-tolerance attitude towards activities involving triad societies. They must strictly enforce the law. They also remind members of the public to report immediately if they are blackmailed by members of triad societies.
