A senior US administration official warned tonight (Saturday) in a briefing to reporters that "if Iran continues on the current path we will have to increase the pressure on it." The senior official added that "we are preparing for a world where there will be no return to the nuclear agreement."
"What we saw and the whole world saw including Russia and China that the Iranians were not serious about in talks in Vienna," the senior official said. "What is clear is and we have heard it from the Russians and the Chinese and the Gulf states - the world is ready to support back to the nuclear deal but Iran needs to show seriousness."
"The goal is still to try and get back to the nuclear deal. But Iran needs to come back with a serious approach. If that happens they will find a serious partner on our side. The Russians and Chinese were also surprised that the Iranians withdrew all their concessions and doubled their demands. They were also disappointed with the Iranians. "In a world where there will be no return to the nuclear deal. We have not lifted the sanctions. The pressure on Iran continues. We have not yet come to the conclusion that the nuclear deal is no longer worth it. We still think it makes sense to try and return to the nuclear deal."
