Daniel Day Kim ("Lost") plays the lead role of an FBI agent in the series "The Hot Zone: Anthrax" which airs on National Geographic Channel • "During 'Lost' I got two auditions a year when other actors did two auditions a day," he says.

Tonight at 21:00, a new season of the anthological plot series "The Hot Zone" will air on the National Geographic Channel.

If the previous season dealt with the outbreak of the Ebola virus in 1989, the new season deals with the panic of anthrax envelopes, which were distributed in the United States immediately after the twin disaster.

As part of that anonymous attack, which occurred in the fall of 2001, envelopes containing anthrax powder were sent to people in Florida, Washington, D.C. and New York.

The toxic powder causes a dangerous infectious disease, and five people died as a result of receiving the envelope with the anthrax.

The "Hot Zone: Anthrax" series has six episodes, and it follows an FBI agent who specializes in microbiology named Matthew Riker, played by actor Daniel Day Kim ("Lost").

The character is fictitious, however based on the testimonies of real agents.

Another key character in the series is that of Bruce Edwards Evans, (played by Tony Goldwin, "Scandal"), a brilliant microbiologist in the U.S. military who takes part in the investigation team.

Among the producers of the series is the esteemed director Ridley Scott.

The first season, which aired in 2019 and dealt with the Ebola virus outbreak, starred actress Julianne Margolis ("The Good Wife").

The new season is getting attention, in part due to the fact that its lead actor, Daniel Day Kim, is of Asian descent - something that is not common on American television.

In an online panel promoting the series, Kim said: "This is a role of a magnitude I would not expect to get until a few years ago. It's something that probably would not have happened in the series 20 years ago, so it's a sign of progress we make. - FBI ".

Kim, a native of South Korea, won his big break as Jin Kwan in the popular series "Lost," which aired in the early 2000s.

Since then he has appeared in series like "The Good Doctor" and the remake of "Hawaii Five Zero."

According to Kim, in the past he has had a very small number of opportunities to play.

"In the year I came to audition for 'Lost,' I only had two or three auditions throughout the year," he said.

"My colleagues did such a number of auditions a day. In the end I always remind myself that there is no shortage of actors, especially in America, and in some ways you see another face that needs to be proven to have some value. You need to prove you have something interesting to say creatively and artistically. "She said in Hollywood that when you do not find a place in the show business, it is your duty to create one for yourself. It is a belief that always accompanies me."
