Local authorities in India have evacuated about 55,000 people in anticipation of a tropical storm, accompanied by heavy rain, in the south of the country.
The Indian government said in a statement carried by Sputnik agency, "200 camps have received evacuees from three provinces, schools have been closed in areas assessed as at risk, in addition to the cancellation of 75 train journeys that were previously scheduled."
No loss of life or serious property damage was reported.
In turn, the Indian meteorologist suggested that the storm called "Jawad" in the Bay of Bengal will gradually weaken over the next 12 hours.
