Every year, more than 5,000 citizens in Hong Kong experience sudden cardiac arrest in the community. The brain cells of the patients will start to die within five minutes, and they will die at any time if they are not rescued in time.

Even if you are not "anyone" and have never learned CPR, if someone suddenly stops the heart, just get an automatic defibrillator (AED) as soon as possible, turn on the device according to the voice instructions, stick a shock film, and press a button to shock the patient , There is a chance to save a life, even a family.

For every 100 patients with sudden cardiac arrest in the community, only 2 to 3 patients can be admitted to the hospital for treatment and discharged again after being rescued. That is, more than 95% of the patients die as a result.

75% of cardiac arrest cases are caused by heart problems, and more than half of them are ventricular fibrillation.

When ventricular fibrillation occurs, the output of the heart will stop, and there will be no blood supply to the brain and other organs of the body.

Every minute a patient has a cardiac arrest, the chance of survival is reduced by 10%, and after 10 minutes, there is almost no chance of being rescued.

After the heart stopped for 5 minutes, the patient's brain cells began to die, so the golden 5 minutes must be used to restore the heart rhythm to normal.

Applying an automatic defibrillator shock to the patient as soon as possible can greatly increase the patient's chances of returning to a normal heart rhythm.

Easy to follow the AED voice instructions

When you see someone fainting, you should immediately check to see if the patient is still breathing.

There will be ups and downs in the chest when breathing. If the person's chest does not fluctuate and is "extremely unconscious", he should be suspected of cardiac arrest and use an automatic defibrillator immediately.

Even if citizens have not received professional training, there is no need to worry, the AED operation is very simple.

First open the cover of the AED, untie the patient’s clothing and remove the necklace and other accessories. According to the AED’s voice instructions, stick two electric shock films on the patient’s left lower chest and right upper chest. The AED will automatically analyze the patient’s heart rhythm. The patient keeps a distance.

If the AED decides that it needs an electric shock, it will be charged automatically. Just follow the voice instructions and press the red button to give the electric shock. Some AEDs will even automatically give the electric shock.

Keep calm and call out loudly to find a helper to call 999

During the rescue process, citizens will inevitably be nervous or panic. You can remember the following tips:

1) Scream out: "Someone faints may stop the heart, there is no one to help." When there are other people to help, I am more calm.

2) Call 999 by yourself or someone to call an ambulance

3) If someone understands cardiopulmonary resuscitation, they can do cardiopulmonary resuscitation for the patient first and get the AED as soon as possible at the same time

To mobilize the citizens and all the soldiers to save people, they all need "weapons". Just like the scene in the movie "The True Colors of Heroes", Mark puts his pistols in multiple places and is ready to use them at any time.

The Fire Services Department earlier launched the "AED Obtained Use" program to promote the popularization of AEDs in the community.

Currently, airports, sports venues, some shopping malls, universities, housing estates, commercial institutions, etc. all have AEDs.

The "AED Search" online information platform provides information such as the location of AEDs in Hong Kong, making it easier for the public to find AEDs in emergencies.

Pay attention to the placement of AEDs on the street, do "anyone" learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation

When shopping, citizens can pay attention to where there is an AED. "When you go to a shopping mall, you will notice that there is a toilet below."

Citizens should learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation as "anyone", just like learning to swim or ride a bicycle, to increase their chances of saving people successfully.

The government may consider putting an AED at every bus stop, which makes it easier to get to many places.

When shopping, citizens can pay attention to where there is an AED. When you go to a shopping mall, you will notice that there are toilets underneath. You can also review the entire rescue process in your heart, and you will be more confident when you go to save people.

In the past, many patients have been treated in the hospital. Only when passers-by were given AED emergency treatment could they have the chance to be sent to the hospital to save their lives.

The public can refer to the Fire Services Department’s cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automatic defibrillator online learning resources:

Vaccine FAQ|The specialist disassembles the elderly who are concerned about vaccination with heart disease, and the blood-thinning medicine can also be used to hit the data. The daily average of 16 people in Hong Kong suffers from heart attack and stroke. The vaccination has not exceeded expectations. AED, if you want to use it, anyone can save someone in an emergency
