This past weekend, two videos went online almost simultaneously that managed to stir up a storm and go viral almost immediately.
The first to hit waves was Natalie Dadon who uploaded to Instagram on Friday a video of her passionately kissing her partner Amit Perlis.
A day later (Saturday) Michael Lewis also uploaded a video of himself with his partner Mary Perglin, as they too are documented kissing and cuddling passionately.
While Dadon snatched quite a few ricochets about the video that many saw as too intimate and provocative an exposure to the social platform, Lewis won an almost sweeping majority of accommodating comments.
We caught up with Lewis for a brief chat in an attempt to understand from him why the reactions from surfers were so different when the content and level of exposure were almost identical. This is what he had to say:
I am a free soul and always promote freedom of expression and creativity, and what I did felt right to me on condition and as long as I did not intentionally and maliciously harm someone else.
"It could be that the difference between what Natalie Dadon has raised and what I have raised is a net in submission and editing and sometimes it's also a matter of timing. I don't know how to put my finger on it.
"It's important to note in addition to everything I remember that a few years ago I went to visit children in a hospital. What I wanted was to make them happy and put a smile on their faces. I shared the act on my Instagram to raise awareness for volunteering and contributing back to the community. .
"This case has taught me that no matter what I choose to do, even if it is pure and with good intention on my part, someone will always have something to say. I encourage the people around me and the people I do not know and who follow me to spread love and set an example and not let others' opinions run. "The agenda. The best response to hatred and envy is a smile and disregard. Whoever does not support you, has no place or stage in your life, remember that."
