Mobile console comeback: It seems that Razer is also working on its own device Israel today

2021-12-05T14:58:08.270Z

Also, at least four more devices are expected to come out in the coming year and breathe new life into a field that has been pretty neglected in recent years • Should the switch be apprehensive?

If you get the impression that every few days a new portable game console is announced or leaked, as strange as it sounds - it's really true.

Manufacturers of these devices seem to believe that gamers are not content with smartphones when it comes to gaming on the palm of their hand, and require more powerful hardware that will match, as far as possible, the performance of consoles and home computers.

Just yesterday, for example, a prototype of a portable console from Razer was unveiled, a company that specializes in computers and accessories designed for gamers, from laptops to headphones, controllers and chairs.

This prototype, which may very well be just an early example for developers and whose final version will look completely different, is based on a new and powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon GX3 chipset, and may compete with Valve's Linux-based Steam Deck console, whose launch date was recently postponed to February 20 .

It should be noted that although these two devices are defined as "consoles", they are basically laptops for everything, which are only built as mobile gaming systems.

In other words, they will run PC games that are downloaded or streamed to them, and will not have exclusive titles like Sony and Nintendo consoles (the exclusive Xbox titles also come out for the PC).

New but old

The retro console segment is also heating up, with two products that create a significant buzz and that we reported a few months ago: the Playdate, a tiny and weird device that will actually boast original games with an old-fashioned taste (and will also be postponed to next year), and the Gameboy-like Analogue Pocket, Will run games on six classic portable consoles (Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, Sega Game Gear, Atari Links, Neo Jiao Phuket and Turbo Graphics 16), and will launch later this month.

This is not a Nintendo Switch, but Odin,

In addition, we will mention the Odin console, similar to the Nintendo Switch from the Chinese company AYN, which was created with the help of a crowdfunding campaign.

This is an Android based device that will be distributed starting in January (after postponement).

While it will run games from the Google Store, the titles of the PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube and other old consoles have also been documented running successfully on its prototype unit, thanks to an emulator.

Finally, one can not ignore the intriguing project that Sony is working on, a product that appears to be a kind of special controller for smartphones, which we reported on yesterday, and we will not forget the new (relatively) OLED version of the switch, which is still considered the world's leading portable console. Status.

For sure, we're going to have our hands full.
