During the big tattoo to say goodbye to Angela Merkel, many people brooded: Which songs would I actually choose for such an occasion?

The Tölzer Kurier asked local politicians from the district the question.

The result was a mixed bag.

Martin Bachhuber member of the CSU state parliament from Bad Heilbrunn:

I would like the “Borsická polka” to be the first piece.

It's pretty quick, and it's actually my favorite polka.

As a second track I would choose “Let it be”.

I was a fan of the Beatles even in my youth.

The song is about the fact that sometimes things just happen, just have to be allowed.

This also applies to politics.

Here you sometimes have to let things get by - whether you want to or not.

The third number for me would be “Aus und Past” from “Münchner Zwietracht”. I have been in politics for 38 years now.

I would actually find that a very good bouncer.

Michael Lindmair Second Mayor (FWG) and trumpeter from Bad Tölz:

I would choose the "Benedictus" from "The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace" by Karl Jenkins, because it is simply one of the most wonderful pieces - written for him from a mass Peace.

And it has a wonderful solo for euphonium.

The "Tölzer Schützenmarsch" goes without saying. On such an occasion, this choice would be very clear to me as a Tölzer.

As a third track I would like to see "Music" by John Miles.

There should always be something personal on such an occasion.

And music runs like a red thread through my whole life and is a companion in all situations.

Josef Niedermaier District Administrator (FW) and clarinetist from Bad Tölz:

As an enthusiastic wind musician, I would tend to traditional wind music pieces.

1. Overture Light Cavalry by Franz von Suppé.

2. Chorale “Faith Lives” from Parsifal by Richard Wagner.

3. Mars the Medici by Johann Wichers.

I like the light cavalry as a piece of music, militarily jagged parts, lyrical middle part, and quite challenging for the clarinet register.

When I hear “Faith is alive” or when I am allowed to play, especially in church, then I always feel cold and a certain awe of faith arises.

“Mars the Medici” is my favorite march.

Ursula Fiechtner district farmer and FW district councilor from Rothenrain:

Like Angela Merkel, I would like "Great God, we praise you".

For me it is one of the most beautiful hymns and has been played many times in moving moments.

My life and my faith depend on it.

And I sometimes sang it to my daughter to sleep when she was little.

I would also like to see the “Bohemian Dream”.

I've always been a fan of brass music, and that's just a beautiful piece.

And the "bird meadow".

This piece is also carried away and makes us think of the time when we can have fun again in the community.

Willi Streicher SPD city councilor from Bad Tölz:

For me, the “Tölzer rifle march” would definitely be set.

I grew up here, I'm at home here, and the “Tölzer Schützenmarsch” is simply part of us, it means home to me.

The second thing I would like to see is “Isarflimmern” from Willi Michl.

This is the Bavarian national anthem - and we play it with great joy with our band.

Third, I would like to see “Bohemian Rhapsody”.

The song has been with me all my life.

I've seen Queen live five times, the first time when I was 17, and those were my most formative concerts.

There is no other like Freddy Mercury.

Barbara Schwendner Green District Councilor from Bad Tölz:

"Locomotive Breath" by Jethro Tull stands for empowerment and a spirit of optimism with fun and strength - the right thing for this time.

Then I'm also a fan of Nina Hagen.

For me it stands for the female power that spilled over to us with feminism from Berlin.

I would like her to be “indescribably feminine”.

The third song would be “Gracias a la vida” by Violeta Parra.

That we can help shape it here freely and with the opportunity.

being able to live is a reason for me to say “thank you to life”.

With that I would choose songs in the three languages that have shaped me the most.
