The Puerto Rico Health Department reported this Saturday that as of Monday, December 6, passengers will be required to arrive on the island - regardless of the vaccination status or destination of origin - that complete a Travelers Declaration in order to be able to monitor any symptoms related to covid-19.

This tracking will be carried out through the Sara Alert system.

Also, travelers who come from a national destination and who are not fully vaccinated, must present a negative test carried out 72 hours prior to their arrival in Puerto Rico, as ordered by Administrative Bulletin No. OE-2021-037.

In addition, the government reported that it is still in force that passengers who fail to bring a negative test for covid-19 will have to take the same test in Puerto Rico within the first 48 hours after arrival and upload the result to their virtual Declaration profile. of Travelers.

Similarly, all passengers entering Puerto Rico from an international destination must also meet the requirement of a negative covid-19 test.

Sara Alert is an online tool that allows you to monitor the occurrence of symptoms in travelers entering Puerto Rico.

Through the virtual tool it has been possible to monitor the symptoms of over 4,882,262 passengers who have arrived on the island since July 15, 2020. In the period in which Sara Alert has been activated, 6,764 positive cases have been detected and has been able to stop the chain of transmission of the virus.

This guideline is part of the measures taken by the government to reinforce surveillance at airports amid the covid-19 pandemic and the advance of the omicron variant.

“As we well anticipate, we are reinforcing the measures we have in airports to protect citizens, taking into account that there is a variant circulating that appears to be more contagious than the others.

We have the strictest protocols regarding airports, so the changes are minimal, but important to continue effective surveillance, ”said Carlos Mellado, secretary of the Puerto Rico Department of Health.

Mellado reported that, at the moment 65,183 children between 5 and 11 years old have at least one dose of the vaccine against covid-19, of which 14,852 have second doses.

On the other hand, 464,760 booster doses have been administered for the population 18 years of age and older and recorded, as reflected in the Data Entry System of the Vaccination Program of the Department of Health (PREIS).
