Damascus-SANA

Director Ali Al-Aqbani has completed the technical operations of his short feature film entitled (The Key Café), which he wrote and produced by the General Film Organization.

And about the film, Al-Aqbani said in an interview with SANA, “The idea of the Key Café stems from a small place, which is the story theater and the hub of a love story that perched over the city’s streets, summarizing tales of war, memory, places, souls and human beings waiting, immigrants and dreamers.”

Al-Aqbani continued, "I wrote the film more than two years ago, and it was approved by the institution, and I waited until the opportunity came to complete it, as I wanted to send a message of love to the absentees and the doors and keys of their homes, and to hear together the screams of empty houses and their closed doors, and the voices of lovers, parents and children who are forced to leave their places and homes."

This film comes as Al-Aqbani's second cooperation with the Cinema Foundation, which made him describe it as a rich and rich opportunity to present a short film that he wrote in several stages and edited several times until it reached its final form that will be shown to the audience.

On his film project, which he is working on, Al-Aqbani explained that since he entered the world of the golden screen through watching, reading and following up, cinema has become the focus of his intellectual and artistic interest and the subject of his constant search for what he can present through it in terms of writing and image, indicating that what he thinks of simply and deeply works to communicate it to the audience in the same way. Far from the classic templates.

Al-Aqbani speaks in his films about himself in the language of the group, so that the key to the film is the common concern for the text to impose its visual material, indicating that every idea presents itself to him as a director to express it visually through the camera, trying to experiment and test details and cinematic and cognitive tools to reach the cinema he wants to present.

But Al-Aqbani’s biggest dream has not yet been fulfilled in making a feature film, which is the ambition he seeks, noting at the same time the Cinema Foundation’s support for many Syrian filmmakers, including professionals and young amateurs, to present their visions within the framework of the short film.

Ali Al-Aqbani is a director, film critic, poet and journalist who has completed many programs, short films and documentaries, including (The Syrian Icon), (The Memory of Syrian Plastic Art), (The Hero of Novels), (The Holdrs on the Embers) and (The Fall).
