"It was hell for the children", the prosecutor summarized the "educational measures" of the accused.

The man had hit his children, who were then two, four and six years old, over and over again, also with his fist in the face.

He pulled them up the stairs by the ears, hit them with the spoon, and kicked them when they were on the floor.

Child put in the garbage can for hours

In his eyes the children should be brought up more strictly than his wife practiced.

In many cases it was about the not yet existing cleanliness of the children.

He put his three-year-old son, who had pissed himself, in a garbage can once for hours.

The child could not climb out, nor sit down.

Since the mother of the children tolerated this, there is also a criminal complaint against them for abuse of wards.

The presiding judge Claudia von Hirschfeld saw in the behavior of the accused "a bottomless lack of empathy".

It was an extremely strange and heartless situation for the children in this parental home.

The thing with the child in the garbage can is particularly degrading, said von Hirschfeld.

Marital crisis as a trigger for action

"A toxic relationship is no justification for treating children like this," she said. Because the constant marital crisis was probably the trigger for the defendant's actions. They were on the verge of separation when the woman and the children secretly fled to a women's shelter. The man went to the police and reported his family missing. The family situation was investigated and the police filed a complaint.

The couple are now legally divorced.

The mother has sole custody and the family is looked after by the youth welfare office.

"The children had to pay for everything," said the public prosecutor in his plea and predicted that all three children would have to see a psychologist after years of abuse as adults.

This is what the accused emphasized, who fully admitted the acts that he would now be in psychological treatment after separating from his family.

He lives again with his parents in northern Germany.

He keeps the ban on contact with his children.

Condition: Therapy must be continued

The court made a probation condition that the convicted man continue his therapy for at least a year.

He should also contact an educational counseling service because, as judge von Hirschfeld emphasized: “You stay a father.

There will be contact again at some point, ”she said.

Von Hirschfeld and her two lay judges saw massive deficits in the defendant.

“They have an egocentric attitude and have to start from scratch when raising children,” explained von Hirschfeld.

This is to be achieved through arranged parenting and family counseling.

His client is extremely ashamed, the defense attorney said.

"He wants to admit his guilt," he said.

The judgment was accepted and is therefore final.
