Eight people were killed in a fire that broke out in an apartment building in north China's Shanxi Province.
"The fire broke out in a building belonging to a thermal power company in the province, killing eight people and injuring five others," the Chinese Xinhua news agency quoted local authorities as saying today, noting that the fire was extinguished while search and rescue work continued at the site.
Investigations are underway to uncover the cause of the fire.
