Twenty-three felines were recovered alive. The occupant of the house, an octogenarian, was no longer fully sane.

Most of the corpses, sometimes recent, often old, were in closed plastic containers, taped shoe boxes and wooden crates. The remains were even partly devoured by other felids. "We counted a hundred corpses, it is believed that a few were placed in these boxes while they were still alive", explains Cécilia Frileux, director of the association "In the service of animals 06".

Twenty-three animals were recovered alive, but in very poor condition, rickety, in the unsanitary house strewn with rubbish and droppings.

Most have been hospitalized and at least five are in life-threatening conditions.

Faced with the scale of the situation, volunteers from eight animal protection associations intervened on the spot to take care of the survivors and rob the place.

An online prize pool has also been opened to help them cover veterinary costs.

The public prosecutor of Nice, Xavier Bonhomme, told Parisien-Today in France that an investigation has been entrusted to the police of the Departmental Security for the count of acts of cruelty to animals.
