Soldiers in the Indian army have killed 13 civilians in the northeastern village of Oting, near the border with Myanmar, local police said last night (Sunday).
According to the announcement, army forces fired at a truck in which six workers returning home from work in Moon County, Nagland, were driving on Saturday afternoon.
According to the army, an ambush was set up for the rebels.
As a result of the shooting, all six were killed.
Later, the families of the workers, who searched for them and found their bodies, confronted the army, and he responded by firing at them and killing seven more civilians.
"The situation in the area is extremely tense at the moment," reported a Nageland police officer, Sandip M.
Tamgadge, to the AFP news agency.
He added that nine more civilians injured in the second incident were evacuated to local hospitals.
The army said one soldier was killed during the clash, and others were wounded.
It was further reported that the soldiers acted based on "reliable intelligence", according to which rebels operated in the area, and that the ambush was placed there to arrest them.

Following the fatal incident, a senior Nageland administration official, Nipio Rio, sought to calm the winds and ordered an investigation into the incident.
"The unfortunate incident that led to the killing of civilians in Moon is reprehensible," he wrote on his Twitter account.
Senior government, police and military officials arrived in the area to investigate the incident, and the country's interior minister, Amit Shah, expressed regret over him and said the state investigation "would ensure justice for the bereaved families."
The government later announced that it would provide initial compensation of about $ 6,600 to each of the families of the civilians killed.
On Sunday, a march was held in memory of the victims in Kohima, the capital of Nagland, with reports of few cases of violence in various parts of the tense country in the background.
The funeral service for the dead will be held later during Monday.
