The Governor of Damascus, Engineer Adel Al-Olabi, discussed with the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Syria, Christoph Martin, the prospects for bilateral cooperation between the two sides and ways to enhance it in the humanitarian, relief and health fields.
The two sides discussed the existing coordination mechanisms between the governorate and the mission and the facilities provided to enhance humanitarian work and increase relief aid to meet the growing needs in light of the repercussions of the Corona pandemic.
The Governor of Damascus commended the efforts made by the mission in the field of humanitarian work, which will reflect positively on the citizens, especially the displaced, stressing the need to lift the unilateral coercive measures imposed by Western countries on the Syrian people, which contributes to alleviating their suffering.
In turn, Martin pointed to the fruitful cooperation with the governorate of Damascus and the close cooperation between the committee and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent in the field of emergency responses to meet the growing needs in the governorate in terms of humanitarian, relief and health aid and to secure it according to the available capabilities.
Martin pointed to the increase in humanitarian and relief needs in light of the people's return to their areas after the improvement in the stability situation, indicating that there are many more effective projects that the mission in Damascus is working on related to humanitarian needs and the water sector and others.
The meeting was attended by members of the Executive Office, Basil Mihoub and Samir Jazaerli, the Secretary of the Relief Sub-Committee in the governorate, Majid Al-Akhras and Muhammadiyah Al-Naasan from the Department of International Organizations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, and the Director of the Damascus and Rural Office and the Southern Region in the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Syria, Patrick Hauser.
