Two weeks before the Legislative Council election, a number of non-organized candidates sought support from the Democratic Party in the middle of last month. The party held a special Central Committee meeting last night (6th) to process relevant applications.
The Democratic Party chairman Luo Jianxi said after the meeting that the party decided not to support any candidate in the name of the party. At the same time, it refused to approve the veteran Li Huaming to support the new thinking chairman and social welfare candidate Di Zhiyuan in his own name, and approved Li Hongbo to support it in his own name. Based on the analysis of a number of Democrats, there are three main reasons why the party refuses to support the candidate's decision in the name of the party.
The Central Committee explained that the quality of individual candidates is too low and their political ideas are very different from those of the Democratic Party, which is unacceptable for the Democratic Party. Candidate Liu Cheuk Yu from Southwest New Territories, Candidate Cai Mingxi from Southeast New Territories, Candidate Huang Chengzhi, Pan Zhuohong and Di Zhiyuan from Northeast New Territories sent a letter to the Democratic Party earlier, seeking support from the party in the name of organization, and Li Huaming applied to support Di in his own name. Zhiyuan, Li Hongbo, former vice chairman of the Tsuen Wan District Council, also applied to support Liu Zhuoyu.
The Democratic Party sent a questionnaire to five people earlier to understand the candidates' positions on various issues.
Some Central Committee members explained the reason why the Democratic Party had "lost" the five candidates. Among them, they denounced that the quality of the candidates was too low.

In addition, the questionnaire also asked candidates about their views on excessive police power and the establishment of an independent investigation committee. The Central Committee quoted the candidate as saying: "Excessive police power may affect human rights." Whether it has an impact, it will not have an impact.” He said bluntly, “The answers are all unsuccessful in general education”, and said: “If you want to become a legislator and have no courage to assume your own position, the Democratic Party is really unable to support it. There are already a lot of loyalty wastes in the Legislative Council, there is no need for one more!"

The Democratic Party approved Li Hongbo to support Liu Zhuoyu in his personal capacity, but refused to approve Li Huaming for supporting Di Zhiyuan.
Some members of the Central Committee explained that Li Hongbo has no public office in the party, and Liu Zhuoyu has track record to be found. The district election was recommended by the democrats the year before. Some party members also believe that Liu's answer to the questionnaire is relatively "yes" "Principles" and "True Road", so Li Hongbo's application was approved.
Some members of the Democratic Party analyzed that many party members worried that if the party vetoed all applications, it might provoke the establishment and the regime to verbally accuse the party of interfering with and boycotting the election. Therefore, they approved Li Hongbo’s application to reduce the possibility that the Democratic Party would face Political risks.
In particular, the Central Committee approved the resignation of Li Baogui and Zhou Zhuoqi from the party, but did not approve the application for resignation
As for the refusal of Li Huaming's application, a member of the Democratic Party pointed out that Di Zhiyuan nominated Feng Weiguang for the election, "the political position is completely different from ours (the Democratic Party)."
Some members of the Dove Party believe that although Li Huaming does not have party affairs, as the veteran of the Democratic Party, his "white dove color" is too heavy, and the public will easily associate Li Huaming with the Democratic Party, so he refuses to approve the application.
It is reported that Zhou Zhuoqi, the Central Committee member of the Democratic Party and Li Baogui, the Commissioner for Discipline Inspection, regarded as the "main selection" by the outside world, had previously resigned from the party for all party affairs and applied to quit the party.
According to the news, the special Central Committee has approved the two resigning from the party. As for their application for resignation, the Central Committee will try to retain them, but has not yet accepted the two resign from the party.
