, the LRs were able to nominate a candidate at the end of a series of four honorable debates. EELV and LR are the only ones to have taken the risk of the primary. In addition, they did so by forcing the return of two elected officials who had left them in 2017, Xavier Bertrand and Valérie Pécresse. The debates may have seemed repetitive and lacked in breath or vision, but they allowed the emergence of a few lines of force, in particular the combination of a kind of liberalism with the assertion of sovereign power, in the desire to promote the work, reduce the tax burden, reform the State andassert public authority.
