Munich / Memmingen - The time has come on December 12th: With the timetable change, Go-Ahead Bayern will take over train operations on the route from Munich via Memmingen to Lindau. On the route that has been electrified for a year, passengers will then be traveling for the first time with modern electric regional multiple units with air conditioning, at least 20 bicycle parking spaces per train and plenty of storage space for luggage.

As Go-Ahead Bayern also reports, many DB Station & Service stations have now been expanded so that step-free access to the new trains is possible and it is easy to get on and off with a stroller or wheelchair. It is also important for the passengers: All tickets that have been used up to now, such as the Bayern Ticket, tickets with a Bahncard discount or commuter subscriptions from the MVV and bodo transport associations, are still valid.

Go-Ahead Bayern runs the trains in the so-called E-Netz Allgäu on behalf of the Bavarian Railway Company (BEG), which plans, finances and controls Bavarian regional and S-Bahn traffic on behalf of the Free State, and the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport.

"We were commissioned to drive a completely new concept on this route," said Bastian Goßner, Managing Director of Go-Ahead.

“Passengers can look forward to brand new vehicles with plenty of space for their luggage and a quiet and environmentally friendly electric drive.

In addition, our trains can travel faster and also accelerate better than the diesel trains previously used there, so that we can offer our passengers shorter travel times. "

Brand new vehicles with lots of space

However, it is also clear that the operation of this route will not be easy for go-ahead either. “We want to guarantee our passengers and the whole region a punctual and reliable operation. But a large part of this route is only single-track, and as we approach Munich we share the only double-track route with several other providers and the S-Bahn. A disruption, regardless of the cause, will therefore quickly be felt by our passengers as well. "

Little changes for the passengers in Buchloe.

Around Buchloe, Go-Ahead shares the operation of the routes with other railway companies, so it can also be the case, for example, that you take a Go-Ahead train for a trip to Munich and a train from another railway company on the return journey.

The offer will be increased from Buchloe to Memmingen: In future, three regional trains will run within two hours instead of the previous two.

Changes for Memmingen

A lot has changed for the passengers in Memmingen. With just a few gaps, you now have a fast connection every two hours with the Eurocity, which will take you to Munich in just over an hour. In addition, Go-Ahead Bayern runs an equally fast connection to Munich every other hour, so that in future there will be a very fast connection every hour between Memmingen and Munich with a travel time of a good hour. The fast trains of the Go-Ahead line RE 96 stop between Munich-Pasing and Memmingen only in Buchloe, Türkheim and Mindelheim. "In between, we drive a slower train on the RE 72 line during the hours when the Eurocity is running, which also serves other stops on the way and will reach Munich after around one and a half hours," says Bastian Goßner from Go-Ahead.

Every hour to Lindau

In the direction of Lindau there are almost no through trains so far;

even if you change trains, you basically only have a connection every two hours.

That changes fundamentally, because Go-Ahead has been commissioned to run a train every hour from Memmingen to Lindau, stopping at all stations on the way.

From Leutkirch in the direction of Memmingen there has been a train every hour during the week and every other hour on the weekend.

In the direction of Lindau there is currently a continuous connection every two hours.

That changes fundamentally;

in future there will be an hourly service every day with trains from Lindau to Memmingen, which run every other hour via Memmingen to Munich.

Every second go-ahead train starts from Lindau-Reutin and goes first to Lindau-Insel and then on via Memmingen to Munich.

In between, other trains that leave Lindau-Insel and will then have Memmingen as their terminus consolidate the timetable at hourly intervals.

This means that in future passengers will have a train every hour from Lindau Island to Memmingen, seven days a week;

this is a big improvement, because so far there are hardly any through trains from Lindau to Memmingen.
