After an attempted attack on the East Belgian MEP Pascal Arimont, several colleagues from Brussels have expressed their solidarity.

"We are shocked that your home was attacked over the weekend," wrote Manfred Weber, leader of the European People's Party, on Twitter.

One will never bow to this kind of hatred.

Fabio Massimo Castaldo, Vice-President of the European Parliament, wrote of an "intimidation" against Arimont and his family that must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

EPP MP Sven Simon promised his Belgian colleague solidarity.

Arimont lives in Büllingen, the largest municipality in the German-speaking community in Belgium in terms of area.

One or more unknown people had sprayed a message of hate in capital letters to Arimont's private house on Saturday night.

"Lying, blackmailing, rushing, splitting ... you will pay for this !!!" it said on the garage.

Next to the house, the police found an object that was later identified as an incendiary device.

The officers have started an investigation.

"I hope the police are now researching certain channels"

According to Arimont, the attack was already the second of its kind. “I reported it at the time, but didn't make it public because I didn't want to make the whole thing bigger than it is. But that now gives me a lot to think about. Of course, you inevitably ask yourself how things will go on now, «Pascal Arimont told the German-speaking Belgian editorial team» GrenzEcho «.

Also this time he reported to the police.

"I hope that the police are now researching certain channels," said the CSP politician.

Among other things, Arimont referred to the “Private Addresses Initiative” channel in the Telegram network, which calls for the private addresses of politicians to be collected in order to disrupt them where they live.

"I commented on the role of science on Facebook on Friday, and now I seem to have found the answer in my garage."

According to Arimont, the attack was an assassination attempt.

"The police qualified this as aggravating arson since we were all in the house."
