Opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu fears that Iran or other enemy states will harm his wife and sons after their security is lifted.
This emerges from a letter sent by Netanyahu's chief of staff, Asher Hayun, to the director general of the Prime Minister's Office, Yair Pines, and to the deputy director general of defense in the Prime Minister's Office, Alon Haliva, and reached Walla !.

Hayun's first argument concerns Iran and enemy countries.
"Due to the length of his tenure as former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the nature of the actions he felt he has approved over the years against enemy countries, there is an open 'bloody account' between those countries and the former prime minister and his family. "Socialism and marking the Netanyahu family as an explicit target for elimination," the letter stated.
"From familiarity with the behavioral pattern of those enemy states, there is no shadow of a doubt that they are monitoring the level of security around him that has dropped significantly in scope, which will allow them to take action against him and his family wherever and whenever they see fit."
Another argument raised by Hayun concerns Netanyahu's popularity.
"There is a 'tsunami' of public support for the former prime minister, support that has had no equal," he wrote.
"It is clear that as the wave of support intensifies, there is a real fear that a lone terrorist will take the blame and do everything possible to prevent former Prime Minister Netanyahu from returning to power by harming him or one of his family members, and this is a situation that must not be tolerated."

Hayun further notes that "explicit statements were recently published by hostile elements that as soon as a promise is made from his family members, they will be held accountable." In recent weeks, indictments have been filed against two people who threatened or harassed members of the Netanyahu family while he was prime minister.
