Two weeks before the Legislative Council election, a number of non-organized candidates sought support from the Democratic Party in the middle of last month. The party will hold a special Central Committee meeting tonight (6th) to process relevant applications.


Democratic Party Chairman Luo Jianxi said that after the meeting, the Democratic Party decided not to support any candidate in the name of the party, but approved Li Hongbo in the southwestern New Territories constituency to support Liu Zhuoyu in his own name.

It is reported that the party has rejected Li Huaming's personal application to support New Thinking Chairman Di Zhiyuan.


Candidate Liu Cheuk Yu from Southwest New Territories, Candidate Cai Mingxi from Southeast New Territories, Candidate Huang Chengzhi from Northeast New Territories and Pan Zhuohong wrote to the Democratic Party earlier, seeking the party’s support in the name of an organization, and "Veteran" Li Huaming applied to support the new thinking in his own name. The chairman and candidate from the social welfare sector, Di Zhiyuan, and Li Hongbo, the former vice chairman of the Tsuen Wan District Council, also submitted paper applications to support Liu Zhuoyu.

The Democratic Party sent a questionnaire to five people earlier to learn about the candidates’ positions on various issues, including their views on the legislation of Article 23 of the Basic Law. The party has received responses from the candidates before the deadline. The meeting will be held today (6th). Special Central Committee meeting to process relevant applications.

Luo Jianxi said that the Special Central Committee dealt with two matters, including dealing with Vice Chairman Liang Yiting's violation of party codes and signing a support agreement to Pan Zhuohong without approval, and dealing with candidates for the 2020 Legislative Council election seeking support from the Democratic Party.

Luo Jianxi stated that because Liang Yiting was absent from the meeting, the members of the Central Committee could not ask questions at the meeting. Therefore, the Central Committee will write to Liang Yiting requesting a written explanation and request her to attend the next meeting to explain.

The Democratic Party decided that it would not support any candidate in the name of the party, but approved Li Hongbo in the southwestern New Territories constituency to support Liu Zhuoyu in his own name.

As for Li Huaming's application for Di Zhiyuan, it is reported that the Democratic Party has rejected the application.
