The head of the Russian delegation to negotiations on military security and arms control in Vienna Konstantin Gavrilov stressed that NATO is escalating tension in all directions, in particular by intensifying its reconnaissance flights near the Russian border.
The TASS news agency quoted Gavrilov as saying in an interview with Russia Today 24 channel, that tension is escalating in every direction, as NATO members are conducting intensive exercises on the border, several times larger than before.. This constitutes an alarming factor.
He added that Russia, for its part, is closely watching the alliance's reconnaissance flights and their increase in density over the Baltic and Black Seas, which amounted to 50 flights over Russian territory per week.
To that, Gavrilov stressed that reaching written agreements on mutual security guarantees with NATO countries is very difficult, but it is possible and requires steps in this direction from both sides.
"There can be some serious talks about possible future agreements, however, this is a long process and there are some opportunities to achieve it and our State Department is working in that direction," he said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced earlier that his country would take appropriate military-technical measures in response to NATO's provocations.
