The Saudi Ministry of Defense issued an unusual statement this evening (Monday) amid the ongoing war in Yemen, according to which air defense forces intercepted and destroyed a lone ballistic missile launched by the Houthis towards the capital Riyadh.
A Defense Ministry spokesman, Turkish al-Malki, explained that the interception operation led to the scattering of shrapnel from the missile in several residential neighborhoods without anyone being injured.
Al-Malki further stressed that "the barbaric and irresponsible behavior of the Houthi militia in an attempt to systematically harm civilians and civilian targets violates human principles and violates international law."

The spokesman assured that the Saudi Ministry of Defense "will take the necessary steps in accordance with international law to protect Saudi Arabia and its citizens and stop the attacks on the border".
In recent weeks, the war has intensified amid stagnation in Saudi-Iranian contacts.
It was recently reported that the Saudi coalition, which includes Arab states other than the Arab kingdom, has attacked Iranian elements in Yemen.
