According to the expected surgeries for the coming month, by the end of the year, about 215 volunteers will donate a kidney. • Chairman of Matanat Chaim, Rebbetzin Rachel Haber

Towards the end of 2021, the 200th altruistic kidney transplant since the beginning of the year took place in Israel yesterday, breaking another record - a record number of kidney donors ever since.

According to the estimates of the Transplant Coordination Department in "Gift of Life", this year will be a break of records in the last decade. According to the expected surgeries for the coming month, by the end of the civil year, some 215 altruistic kidney donors have established 2021 as the most dramatic and achievable year in terms of the volume of kidney donations in Israel, which has been steadily rising over the past decade.

Rebbetzin Rachel Haber, chair of Matanat Chaim, says that in 2021, the proportion of women donors has risen dramatically to about 35% of the total number of donors, and for the first time, prominent cities such as Tel Aviv have also joined the cities from which altruistic kidney donors come.

"This is a tremendous revolution, with hundreds of patients leaving the dialysis wards this year, and suffering daily for a new life.

Israel stands at the forefront of kidney donation, when in just one year hundreds of healthy people entered the operating rooms, in order to remove an organ from their bodies, and gave it to a stranger - to save his life without any consideration.

We will continue to do everything possible so that as many patients as possible return to their families. "

The association mentions that in the first year of the association's activity, only four people donated in Israel, in 2020 the number of donors reached 182, and in early December 2021, Israel has already crossed the threshold of 200 life-saving altruistic kidney donations.

"In the coming month, we are expecting 15 more kidney transplants in Israel, it has no brother or sister," the "Gift of Life" notes.
