Professor Mark Woolhouse, a member of the British Scientific Group on Pandemic Influenza, warned that the mutated “Omicron” variant of the Corona virus is now spreading very quickly in Britain and it is too late to do something to stop it.
Woolhouse said, in statements reported by The Times today, that the British government cannot make any fundamental difference to stop the spread of the mutant after it has definitely spread, warning of successive waves of the spread of the Corona virus led by the Omicron mutant.
He continued, "The infected cases that come from outside the country are very important, and we want to succeed in discovering them and isolating any positive cases we find, as we do in any case anywhere, but I think it is too late to make any fundamental difference in the path of a variable Omicron wave."
He added that although the number of cases is still relatively small so far, the important point is that it is increasing very quickly.
The British Health Security Agency reported that as of yesterday, more than 100 confirmed cases of Omicron had been detected across the UK.
