Damascus-SANA

The head of the Infectious Diseases Division at the Mouwasat University Hospital in Damascus, Dr. Waheed Rajab Bey, said that there is a great deal of exaggeration regarding the new Corona mutant or Micron and the extent of its seriousness, given that there are still few studies on it, and there is no evidence to prove its danger in the countries in which it is spread, especially since no death has been recorded. around the world.

Dr. Rajab Bey explained that the mutations that occur in the virus either change its nature or lead it to disappear and disappear, indicating that the violent mutation that changes the nature of the virus completely takes 10 to 40 years.

The infectious disease doctor stressed the importance of receiving the currently available vaccines, because the mutants did not change the nature of the virus significantly, and therefore they are useful, even partially, in reducing the severity and symptoms of infection.

According to Dr. Rajab Bey, there are no symptoms that characterize infection with the new mutation at the present time, and it is not limited to a certain group and can affect all ages, but the symptoms may pass to children in passing.

The head of the Infectious Diseases Division stated that the severity of infection with the virus, regardless of the type of mutation, depends mainly on the immunity of the infected person.

Locally, Dr. Rajab Bey said that the trend of infections is witnessing a decrease in terms of the number of people admitted to the hospital and clinic visitors with symptoms similar to the symptoms of the virus by half, indicating that it is not possible to detect the new mutation in Syria in a laboratory, because there are no necessary devices for that.

Last Friday, the World Health Organization urged countries not to panic about the possible spread of the new mutant, and indicated that it would take time to learn more about its transmissibility and danger.

On the 26th of last November, the World Health Organization classified the variable Omicron as a variable of concern because it has many mutations that may have an impact on how it behaves, that is, how easily it spreads or the severity of the disease it causes.
