SNCF: RER B drivers called for a "massive strike" this Thursday

SNCF drivers operating on the RER B line are called on to strike Thursday by the CGT-Cheminots, SUD-Rail and FO-Cheminots unions to denounce the deterioration of working conditions and demand wage increases, according to reports. union leaflets.

If the RER B, which crosses the Paris region from northeast to southwest, is operated jointly by SNCF and RATP, this call to strike only concerns SNCF employees.

Degraded working conditions, according to unions

“Line B, this Thursday, December 9, let’s express our anger (…). Our demands are legitimate ”, writes SUD-Rail in a leaflet addressed to the drivers and the managers of their schedules. The union calls for a "general increase in wages", "respect for the life" of drivers or the improvement of the currently "degraded" working conditions of planning managers.

The CGT-Cheminots, for its part, calls on drivers, planning managers, traffic regulators and agents responsible for providing sound information to travelers at the station to a "massively followed strike" to "open their eyes to a direction that wants to be blind" .

The union denounces a policy of "savings" made to the detriment of "jobs" and "living and working conditions" of railway workers.

The CGT also protests against the use of "dilapidated infrastructure and rolling stock".

Many social movements at SNCF

This call to strike on the RER B line is part of a series of social movements in Île-de-France at the SNCF.

Last week, sales agents at the stations and controllers of the Transilien network (regional trains in the Ile-de-France region) were called on strike to denounce job cuts and the deterioration of working conditions.

On Monday, strike calls disrupted RER C and line N traffic. According to SNCF, two out of three RER C were canceled, while half of line N trains were canceled.

Also disrupted on Monday, RER E traffic will still be affected by a strike on Tuesday.

SNCF planned to run four out of five trains on part of this line during these two days.

Regarding the RER C, the CGT-Cheminots demanded "the return to circulation of all RER C trains removed by IDFM

(Ile-de-France Mobilités, the regional authority organizing public transport)

and Transilien" as well as "the improvement ”of working conditions and remuneration of drivers.
