The ousted Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi was sentenced today (Monday) to four years in prison, in a first sentence in one of the trials against her.
Su Chi, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate who was ousted in a military coup in February, was convicted of inciting rebellion and violating corona restrictions.
In all, she is charged with 11 offenses, all of which she outright denies.
The 76-year-old Suu Kyi led the overthrown civilian government, which claimed, without justification, that the election in which the party won a landslide victory was falsified against him.
She has since been placed under house arrest, and has been charged with numerous corruption offenses, harming state security and encouraging riots.
