Defense Minister Ganz criticized the security guard who was seriously injured in a fig crossing attack.

Defense Minister Bnei Gantz this evening (Tuesday) visited Sheba Tel Hashomer Hospital the security guard who was injured in last night's attack on the Tanim crossing, together with the head of the crossing authority, Erez Sidon.

The security guard, who is hospitalized in a mild-moderate condition, told Ganz that one of his steps prevented his death.

"I just remember someone telling me 'a car is coming', and he probably accelerated at once. I was told I had time to take a step, otherwise I would probably have been somewhere else today," the security guard testified.

He added that there was a good chance he would die if he did not take the one step and said: "I remember after that someone says he neutralized him with one bullet - and that's it. Then I woke up here."

"The doctors here did a good job," the security guard said when asked about the rehabilitation process.

"I had a problem with the leg, I know at first they were afraid of it and other things, but now I have been told that everything is fine. The rehabilitation will be long but fine. I have my family to stand behind me."

"The defense minister spoke with the medical staff in the trauma department in Sheba and thanked them for the dedicated care," the defense minister's office said.

A security guard at the Fig Pass near Tulkarem was injured last night after a Palestinian vehicle hit the checkpoint where he was staying.

Other security guards from the Ministry of Defense's Transit Authority who were at the scene responded quickly, shot the terrorist and neutralized him - and he later died of his wounds.

Following the attack, the Minister of Defense ordered an increase in the level of alertness and alertness at all crossings in Judea and Samaria.
