2G plus even for boosters: Bavaria is stumbling behind again

A number of federal states save boosters from the annoying 2Gplus rule: those who have received the third injection no longer need an additional negative test before going to the theater or gym. But Bavaria hesitates. A comment by Georg Anastasiadis.

A number of federal states save boosters from the annoying 2Gplus rule: those who have received the third injection no longer need an additional negative test before going to the theater or gym.

But Bavaria hesitates.

A comment by Georg Anastasiadis.

The booster campaign started (much too) late, but practices and vaccination centers have been reporting an enormous rush for a few weeks: 14 million German citizens have now received the Corona booster vaccination. Another ten million should come by Christmas. Fortunately for them, the risk of becoming infected and falling ill decreases exponentially. But politics is again falling behind in terms of development. Söders Bayern, for example, is again steering a special course and also requires people who have been vaccinated three times before visiting fitness studios, on the golf course or in the theater, in addition to proof of vaccination or recovery, an extra negative test. This completely unnecessarily lengthens the queues in front of the test stations, which are already considerable, discourages those affected from sporting activities and cultural visits and confronts the facility operators, who have been badly hit by economic issues, with additional problems (for which the taxpayer is supposed to pay again in the end). The state government is now only planning rapid relief in response to their armed protests for the ski areas.

Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony and Rhineland-Palatinate show how it can be done better.

There, the strict 2G-plus rules do not apply to those who have been boosted, so they are exempted from additional test obligations.

There politicians pay tribute to the solidarity contribution that third-party vaccinations also make to society - and at the same time describes a central operating principle in the pandemic: incentives are better than pressure.

Of course, governments must not shy away from tough decisions when necessary.

But the line between necessary restrictions and harassing requirements is and will remain fine.
