French media reported today that a three-storey building collapsed as a result of a gas explosion on Jean Jaures Street in the port area in the municipality of Sanary-sur-Mer, southeast France.
And the French BFM channel quoted the city’s governor as saying in a press statement that “emergency services immediately arrived at the scene of the explosion and found a strong smell of gas,” pointing out that a security cordon was established around the area of the accident, gas was cut off, and a nearby building was evacuated, while a gym was opened to shelter affected.
For their part, firefighters announced that 4 people injured in the accident were treated by emergency services, while five people were being searched for under the rubble, including four adults and a child.
The authorities indicated that they had launched an investigation into the causes and circumstances of the accident.
