2021-12-07T18:23:10.286Z

According to the very first observations, "between five and ten rounds" were fired near the Achères-Grand Cormier RER station.

The departmental security of Yvelines is responsible for clarifying the circumstances in which the police used their weapon, this Tuesday afternoon at Achères.

Shortly after 3 p.m., the police were called in for a traffic accident.

A van is implicated and its driver quickly fled.

The police from Conflans-Sainte-Honorine chase the van, soon supported by their colleagues from Saint-Germain-en-Laye.

Thrown on his heels, they manage to block the crazy vehicle on the RN 184, near the Achères-Grand Cormier RER station.

In circumstances yet to be determined with precision, officers then shot the driver of the van, a 39-year-old man known for numerous offenses, thefts and traffic offenses.

According to a police source, "between five and ten cartridges" were fired.

The man may have attempted to overthrow the officials.

Transported in absolute urgency to Beaujon hospital

The affected person, originally from Eragny (Val-d'Oise), was transported in absolute urgency to Beaujon hospital in Clichy (Hauts-de-Seine).

According to the latest information, and despite the serious injuries he suffered, his life-threatening prognosis has not been jeopardized.

The investigation will have to determine the framework of the police intervention.

Self-defense, justified by the driver's desire to overthrow the police, seems privileged.

The IGPN, "the police force" has already been seized for similar facts that occurred last summer in Mantes-la-Jolie.

A 19-year-old was injured by an LBD shot to the head in the Val-Fourré district for trying to flee the police in a car reported stolen, then on foot.

A few days later, in mid-August, police motorcyclists fired on a driver in Rosny-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis) after several refusals to comply and a chase on the A86.
