In an interview at the Wall Street Journal Executive Conference, William Burns said Iran is in an advanced stage of obtaining the materials needed to develop a bomb • "They have many challenges ahead of them," the official said.

The chairman of the US intelligence agency, CIA, William Burns, said the agency had no evidence that Iran had made a decision to produce nuclear weapons, even though he noted the great distance that Tehran had made on the way to the ability to produce such weapons.

Burns made the remarks during a Wall Street Journal conference in Washington, D.C., where he spoke with journalist Gerald Serib.

Burns, who was appointed last year, said: "Well, we have no evidence at the moment that Iran's supreme leader has made the decision to produce nuclear weapons. It is important to remember that this is a three-legged race that they must jump into in order for them to produce weapons," Burns said.

"One leg of this race is to reach 90 percent nuclear material and stockpile enough uranium at that level to produce one or more test warheads. The other is serial production of nuclear weapons, and the Iranians have a lot of work to do until they get there, until As much as we understand. "

"The third leg of the race is the weapon transfer system. Being able to connect it to a missile. So they have quite a few challenges ahead of them. They have already developed control of the nuclear fuel cycle and it is known that it is very difficult to eliminate sanctions or at all. But also with our partners, "Burns added.

Sanctions on Iran

The US Treasury Department announced tonight new sanctions against the commander of the Revolutionary Guards' Basij force, Golmarza Suleimani, in a clear move against Iran, less than a day before the resumption of nuclear talks in Vienna.

The announcement of the sanctions against Suleimani was received from the US Treasury Department along with a series of sanctions on senior officials in Syria and Uganda, due to human rights violations.

Commander of the Revolutionary Guards' base force, Golmarza Suleimani,

"The Ministry of Finance will continue to protect humanity from authoritarianism and will work towards the responsibility for the violent repression of human beings seeking to uphold their human rights and fundamental freedoms," the statement said.

The reason for the sanctions is Suleimani's responsibility for the killing of more than 1,500 protesters in recent years.
