One day before the traffic light coalition took over government, the FDP parliamentary group elected the Lower Saxony MP Christian Dürr as its chairman.
The 44-year-old replaced the previous parliamentary group leader Christian Lindner, who is to be appointed Federal Minister of Finance on Wednesday.
According to the parliamentary group, Dürr received 94 percent of the vote;
the group has a total of 92 members.
Dürr's constituency is Delmenhorst-Oldenburg-Land.
In 2017 he moved into the Bundestag for the first time and took over the post of deputy parliamentary group leader.
Previously, he was parliamentary group leader of the FDP in the Lower Saxony state parliament.
Dürr is regarded as a distinguished finance and budget expert.
In the negotiations with the SPD and the Greens about the formation of a traffic light coalition, Dürr was the FDP's negotiator for the finance working group.
Johannes Vogel was elected as the new First Parliamentary Managing Director with 93 percent of the vote.
Previously, the post was held by Marco Buschmann, who is now Federal Minister of Justice.
