It is difficult to imagine today Turkey without a figure and of the man who has ruled the country for nearly two decades, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
And not for nothing, during the years of his rule, the Turkish statesman worked on shaping the country in his image, from a secular republic with lots of brakes and balances to an authoritarian-hued government centered entirely around the figure of the leader.
The "Digging in Time" podcast today dives back in time to Erdogan's early years and the unusual path he took, from the slums of Istanbul to the leadership of a regional power.
Dr. Asa Ofir, an expert on Turkey from Bar Ilan University, paints a character of a charismatic, determined and talented leader, but also cruel and hates Israel.
Pleasant listening!
