The World Health Organization has recommended that patients with the Corona virus not be treated with “recovered” plasma, as there is no evidence that it improves their chances of survival or reduces their need for artificial respiration.
Reuters quoted the organization as saying, “This method of treatment is expensive and wastes a lot of time,” noting that a committee composed of international experts strongly recommended not to use plasma from the blood of people who have recovered from the virus to treat patients with mild symptoms.
The recommendation, published in the British Medical Journal, was based on the results of 16 trials involving 16,236 asymptomatic COVID-19 patients.
The idea of plasma treatment is based on the fact that the antibodies to the Corona virus in it can neutralize the virus and thus prevent it from reproducing and stop tissue damage in patients, but several studies on plasma from the blood of recovering from Covid 19 did not prove any clear benefit for patients with severe symptoms.
