Against the background of the government's decision to solve the settlement problem in the Negev, Minister of Welfare Meir Cohen and Minister of the Interior Ayelet Shaked today (Tuesday) conducted a tour of Rahat and the Negev accompanied by Rahat Mayor Faiz Abu Sahiban.
Cohen, the minister in charge of arranging Bedouin settlement in the Negev, and Minister Shaked toured the southern neighborhoods of Rahat, Lakia, Tel Sheva and Hashem Zena, one of the three villages to be established after being approved by the government.
Later, the ministers toured the area in order to see up close the implementation of the government's decision in solving the settlement problem in the Negev through the establishment of the three villages of Khashem Zana, Abda and Rahma.
"For years, the State of Israel has dragged its feet on the Bedouin issue and abandoned the Negev," said Minister Shaked during the tour.
"Every year the situation worsens. All Israeli government ministers are fully engaged in carrying out a series of settlements in the field properly and not just on paper. This is an important opportunity that we must take advantage of."
