State Secretary-designate in the Ministry of Health

"Dear President, Ladies and Gentlemen, With today's draft law, the coalition factions of the SPD, Bündnis90 / Greens and FDP are once again presenting a package of measures on the corona pandemic."

A special session in the Bundestag dealt with the renewed tightening of the Infection Protection Act, tougher corona measures and the sensitive issue of mandatory vaccination. Also in the hall was the designated Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach. The opposition took it upon itself.

Jan-Marco Luczak, Member of the CDU

“I would like to take my colleague Lauterbach again at this point, and of course I would also like to wish him the best of luck in his new position. Yes, you can give it your thumbs up, now wait: I have always addressed you in the past speeches because I value you personally and also value your opinion, which has always said very clearly what is necessary in order to fight this pandemic effectively. You never got your way in the parliamentary group. I hope that will be different now as the Federal Minister of Health. But you said Mr Lauterbach, especially with Anne Will: You are not ruling out a lockdown. What you are now giving us here as a legal basis excludes a lockdown, because it will no longer be possible. "

The future health minister tried to clarify this:

Karl Lauterbach, designated Federal Minister of Health

“You pointed out that I pointed out on social media, in presentations, on talk shows that we cannot rule out a lockdown. And that is actually the epidemiological assessment. It may well be what it doesn't look like at the moment, but it may well be that the omicron variant combines both the escape from the vaccines with a faster spread. If this combination takes place, which we don't hope, then it is that we will not be able to avoid another lockdown. Such is the position of admitting that. But you have Parliament yourself, you have to. That is my question too. I have to admit that Parliament has asked to be able to work on these existential questions. And so we will this bridge that we will crosswhen we get to the bridge, with Parliament. We are all together and not now, not now. "

The Infection Protection Act is to be passed in the Bundestag on Friday and then approved by the Bundesrat in a special session.
