A man was indicted Tuesday, December 7 for "
murder
" after going to the police, explaining that he killed his wife on Sunday and then threw her body in the Marne, announced Meaux prosecutor Laureline Peyrefitte.

Aged 52, the suspect presented himself on the night from Sunday to Monday at the Meaux police station (Seine-et-Marne), accompanied by one of his 23-year-old children, where he confessed to the facts. A judge has yet to rule on his possible detention, requested by the prosecution. According to his account, he early Sunday morning "
killed his wife with whom he had been married since 1997, before throwing her body into the Marne,
" the prosecutor said in a statement.
During interrogations, the suspect was not able to "
give a concrete explanation
" to his gesture, added Laureline Peyrefitte.
The man was unknown to the police and justice and "
no complaint or handrail had previously been made by the victim for acts of domestic violence
," said the prosecution.

The body of the 59-year-old victim has not been found at this point and the search is temporarily halted.
The investigation is entrusted to the judicial police of Meaux.
According to a report from the Ministry of the Interior, 146 women were killed by their spouse or ex-spouse in 2019, and 102 in 2020. The murders of women are the final stage of violence suffered by more than 200,000 women per year.
