The police said afterwards that the suspect took a flight to Xiamen, Fujian and was quarantined in an epidemic prevention hotel.
Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, stated today (7th) that the Xiamen City Public Security Bureau decided to repatriate the suspect in the New Taipei City shooting case to Taiwan.
A Hong Kong media today asked Guan Haoming, the Secretary-General of the Anglican Education Ministry who assisted the suspect in the Taiwan homicide, whether he would refer to relevant practices to allow Chen Tongjia to surrender to Taiwan. Guan Haoming pointed out that the above case was Taiwanese who fled to the mainland and then repatriated to Taiwan. However, Tongjia is not a Taiwanese, and the mainland cannot repatriate him. He also pointed out that the crux of the problem is that the Taiwan authorities are unwilling to issue an entry permit to Chen Tongzuo.
After committing the crime in New Taipei City, Taiwan, the male suspect arrived in Xiamen by plane on the 22nd of last month and received centralized quarantine for epidemic prevention.
Ma Xiaoguang said that the Xiamen public security organs immediately launched an investigation after learning about it.
After questioning, the suspect confessed to shooting and killing a man in New Taipei City.
In order to combat violent crimes, ensure the safety of people's lives and property on both sides of the Strait, and maintain the order of cross-strait exchanges, the Xiamen City Public Security Bureau decided to send the suspect back to Taiwan.
