As part of the activities of the 16-day campaign to eliminate violence against women, the Syrian Commission for Family and Population Affairs, in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund, organized an event at the Safir Hotel in Homs to introduce the “Family Protection Unit from Violence” project and the material and moral support it provides to women and children who are exposed to domestic violence in all its forms. its forms.

The head of the Syrian Commission for Family and Population Affairs, Samar al-Sibai, explained during the event that the Syrian Commission is working through its “Family Protection Unit from Violence” project to find a place for battered women to resort in complete secrecy, and provides them with integrated psychological, social and economic services in order to reach a capable and empowered woman. She can chart her life path and become capable of achievement and self-defense, noting the importance of joint work with the United Nations Population Fund and the local community in the face of violence against women.

In turn, the Assistant Representative of the United Nations Population Fund, Dr. Omar Ballan, stressed the need to shed light on this issue, as work is being done to motivate all parties to support girls and women survivors of violence and empower them to recover their energies and become active in society, in addition to providing medical support to all family members to ensure comprehensive support for them. .

Ilham Safi, Population Director at the authority, indicated that the Family Protection Unit project is an experiment that extended from 2017, and is being developed, where cases of sexual and physical violence are received for women of all ages and for male children up to 12 years old, and psychological support is provided to them and a range of medical services Psychological and legal treatment, in addition to vocational training for women in shaving, crochet and sewing, and training on “ICDL” and education for her and her children if she is uneducated, and upon completion of the treatment period, she will be safe and networking occurs with NGOs to secure a place for her from which she can start her life again and provide for her children.

Dr. Amira Ahmed, Gender Program Officer at the United Nations Population Fund, pointed to the continuity of work with all concerned parties, organizing events on combating gender-based violence, and providing appropriate support for this group, especially in the legal field, and how to help the woman who was subjected to violence to defend herself.
