Tamar Keinan starred in series such as "Friends of the Enlightened" and "Double" and in theater performances, until she got tired of acting • She began directing, and is now part of the artistic management of a short theater festival together

More than ten years have passed since Tamar Keinan played the female side in Naor Zion's entourage in the series "Friends of Naor".

Since then she has managed to act as Noa Kirl's mother in a "double" series and in various plays, directing two fringe plays, and now she is the artistic director of a short theater festival together, together with Noa Schechter.

The festival will take place from December 23 to 25, and will feature short performances, lasting up to 20 minutes and carefully selected from hundreds of proposals.

A ticket to the festival gives viewers the opportunity to see four short performances in a row.

"This is my first time doing artistic management," says Keenan, 45, who runs Tzavta's fringe center and also directs the play "White Night," which will be staged at the Cameri Theater this weekend. "I started as an actress. I was a working actress who moved from role to role, and at some point I started to feel like I was getting excited. I found that the materials I did were less and less interesting to me. I wanted to direct but at first I did not dare. Such a joke that you might not take it seriously.

"Then, in 2016, I was offered together to direct a staged reading of a play at the 'Order of Reading' festival, and I honestly said 'yes'. I did not even ask what it was. They sent me a play written by an ultra-Orthodox man, Doron Ne'eman. The first. Then came proposals from playwrights and festivals, I directed a play in the fringe, and it started to roll. At the same time I felt I no longer enjoyed playing and I did not have the joy. "I went down and said, 'So enough.' I stopped playing. On April 23, 2019, the last performance of 'Much Ado About Nothing' at the Cameri Theater - and this was my last performance."

so that's it?

Won't you come back to play?

"No, I really do not want to. I walked around for years without desire and joy. It was a process. I work at something for 20 years, and then say 'I do not want to do it' after it was my life dream? It was hard to admit it, but I did it. I felt like I had slept a little for many years, and when I suddenly woke up - amazing things happened. "

Although there has been a big change in recent years, there are still not many women who are theater directors or senior directors.

"True. In a short theater festival, for example, there is a majority of women directors. I am part of the theater creators' forum in Israel that does a lot to get more women into key and directing roles. "In a seam line, and the corona very sharpened it, brought it to the surface. We need new artists and new creators, because what is there right now are the same people over and over again. The audience started to disappear."
