"I will go where I am most useful": in Hauts-de-Seine, LR boss Philippe Juvin remains at the service of his party

2021-12-08T11:30:03.122Z

The mayor (LR) of La Garenne-Colombes and emergency manager of the Georges-Pompidou hospital (Paris XVth) talks about his participation in the congress

He only obtained 3% of the votes of LR members in the first round of the LR congress last week.

And immediately called for a vote Valérie Pécresse, easily nominated candidate of the Les Républicains party for the presidential election next April with nearly 61% of the votes.

Philippe Juvin, mayor of La Garenne-Colombes for twenty years, emergency manager of the Georges-Pompidou hospital but also president of the LR federation of Hauts-de-Seine, was a little Thumb in this contest for the nomination.

He nevertheless managed to score points, gaining notoriety and putting on the table subjects such as the defense of the public service with, on the form, a tone more moderate than his competitors.

What do you take away from this experience?

Philippe Juvin.

My priority was to get a message across.

It was very important for me that the right spoke about the public service and the hospital.

Today, in France, we have difficulty in treating ourselves.

With significant delays in the care of patients, this is a loss of chance of recovery.

Valérie Pécresse will also take up my proposals on health topics.

Beyond my small score, I hope to have brought something by choosing less traditional subjects.

You also appeared more moderate but in the end, it didn't really pay off ...

Let's be honest, I wasn't going to win!

And it's much more difficult to be moderate than to be radical.

I am a very assertive right-wing man and nothing shocks me in the positions of Eric Ciotti, for example.

About safety, we all said the same things but not in the same way.

It's just a question of character.

And the right has always been plural.

What role will you have in Valérie Pécresse's campaign?

It is not yet decided but, already, Valérie Pécresse gathers.

It does the opposite of what François Fillon did the day after the 2016 primary because it includes everyone.

Monday, she was with Eric Ciotti in the Alpes-Maritimes, the next day with me to visit a hospital, then she will be with Xavier Bertrand and Michel Barnier.

This is a historic moment for the right, which is once again united and in a position to elect a woman for the presidential election.

There is a nice team story to tell while Emmanuel Macron is alone.

Do the Republicans come out, in your opinion, reinforced from this congress?

We have been out of power for ten years and yet we are still there, thanks in particular to the formidable network of local elected representatives.

To win, you need a backbone and consistency.

What Valérie Pécresse undeniably has.

Now, we have to go from an internal election to going to convince all the French, especially those that the right has partly lost, such as civil servants.

Health Minister ?

Deputy ?

How do you see your future, knowing that the Republicans have reserved the 3rd conscription of Hauts-de-Seine for you?

I will go where I am most useful!

I do not rule out being a legislative candidate but I have not yet made a decision.

We will see what the political situation will be at the end of April.

It is a difficult choice because I am very attached to my city, where I have lived since I was little and which I have shaped over the past two decades.

But I have a great team and I have surrounded myself with people who are better than me.

I learned to delegate and to trust.

It's so comfortable!
