Numerous retailers, restaurateurs and hoteliers have spoken out in favor of the Event Arena.

The cultural office doesn't see them as competition either - on the contrary.

Freising

- A broad alliance of environmentalists wants to prevent the event arena planned at the airport.

As reported, the 13 clubs and associations argue, among other things, that the construction poses considerable risks for local retailers and the diverse cultural scene in Freising.

But do the addressees see it the same way?

The FT asked.

"If the Event Arena should come, then we'll be happy." This is what Max Kirchmaier from Active City Freising says.

"The attraction that this hall exerts will be so great that we will feel both a magnetic effect and an increase in our image in our city of Freising." From which the Freising shops, hoteliers and restaurateurs as well as tourism should benefit.

"In addition, we can - as another big plus - advertise our city and our district with an additional international cultural offering."

Active City sees the event hall as a "ray of hope and opportunity"

It is gratifying that climate protection activists are “worried” about the Freising shops and show their hearts for the stationary trade, notes Kirchmaier with a wink.

However, he could not understand that an event arena with cultural events harms retail in the city.

“There is no competition for us at the airport.

It would be something completely different if a giant outlet were built there. ”The Event Arena, on the other hand, is“ a ray of hope and a great opportunity ”for retailers.

The location is also ideal for Kirchmaier.

You can take a bus or bike from Freising to the arena.

There are also the motorway, the S-Bahn with train connections and the airport.

"This means that all options are available to visitors."

Film producer sees the project as a "beautiful story"

Franz Kirmaier is also a member of the Active City.

Born in Freising, he runs “Das Produktionshaus - Digital Film + TV GmbH” on Kammergasse.

He is currently shooting a documentary about the opening of the Moosach in the city center.

“As an entrepreneur, I have no direct advantage from the hall,” he says.

“But as a Freising citizen, I think it's a nice story that private investors spend a lot of money in order to create such an upgrade not only for the city but for the entire region.” Because such an event hall is a great alternative - “and not as competition, but as added value ”.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

That is how Rudi Gissibl sees it.

The owner of the company Kocher GmbH, which, among other things, supplies gastronomy and events as a beverage wholesaler, hopes that regional companies will also benefit from MUCcc.

“In Munich, entrepreneurs from the surrounding area have little chance of getting a chance.

Munich suppliers are preferred, ”he says from experience.

"The project is pure enrichment for the region."

“So much has died from gastronomy lately,” regrets Gissibl.

The perspective on this project alone is invigorating.

“I am convinced that when the hall is up, there will be something going on in the old town as well.” He thinks the location is optimal - not just because of the infrastructure that is already there.

"But also because nobody lives there far and wide."

Gastronomy hopes that something "spills over" from the economic power

She can understand the environmental associations to a certain extent, says Anna Elisabeth Hofmeier, district chairwoman of the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (DEHOGA) and manager of the Hofmeier country inn in Hetzenhausen.

The development of the volume of traffic, for example, is a legitimate topic.

However, Hofmeier also thinks that you shouldn't always undermine every project from the outset.

"That causes enormous damage because then nothing is going ahead." An event hall, for example, generates new jobs, which is positive for the region.

"You really have to be happy when private investors plan something like this."

At a time when the gastronomy and hotel industry are being shaken by Corona, such a project is a ray of light on the horizon.

“We are already hoping for positive impulses that something of the economic power of this hall will spill over to us.

Because when major events take place in Munich, for example the Oktoberfest or trade fairs, the hotels in the district usually have a full house. "

The more culture the better

This is confirmed by Marc Sielhöfer, head of the Bayerischer Hof in downtown Freising.

“We already have regular guests who, for example, go to concerts in the Olympiahalle or playing football in the Allianz Arena.

Therefore, a closer event hall would certainly increase this volume. ”From experience he could say that some of the guests spend at least one extra night in the region.

That also plays a role for the hotel and catering industry.

Head of Cultural Office Markus Bader: "Where there is a lot on offer, the individual cultural workers benefit from each other."

The argument that the culture in Freising could suffer from MUCcc also plays a role with the opponents of the Event Arena.

But the Freising cultural office manager Markus Bader does not believe that.

He can understand if there are concerns.

“But because of my conviction, I am initially open to anything new from culture.” He even believes it will have a positive effect on cultural life in the city.

“Every form of culture is enrichment - especially after Corona.

We have to find ourselves culturally new.

Where there is a lot of cultural offerings, the individual cultural workers benefit from each other. "

Club owner brings town hall into play

For Max Riemensperger, operator of the Freisinger Nachtcafé, one thing is certain: "It's better if the hall is built here than in Munich or even further away." If you stop in Cologne, then Freising will have the opportunity to “participate in world cultural history”. You can then present yourself as a region in a completely different way and take advantage of further synergy effects.

Riemensperger also brings a location into play that has not yet existed in Freising, but has already been discussed a lot: a town hall.

He could well imagine that the arena investors could continue to act as strong partners in the realization of such a city hall in the future.

He has already had talks with them.

“These are guys from Freising who want to do something for our region.

I'm sure: if the Event Arena works, then they will do even more. "
