A reversal in seasonal models: winter will be rainier than expected Israel today

2021-12-08T13:11:29.337Z

After experts predicted a dryer-than-average winter, forecasts were updated and we will soon see a winter escalation • However, forecaster Nahum Malik warns: "Extreme weather events are also possible"

Will the dry winter days end?

An update of the seasonal models indicates a change in the trend predicted in the early days of the winter season.

As you may recall, at the end of October a forecast was published that includes a weighting of global models (two of them European - the most prominent is ecmwf - and one American), which show that the current winter months will be drier than average.

Whereas now - before us a positive line.

In practice, the updated seasonal models - both American and European - now show that winter is expected to be at least average and perhaps even slightly above the seasonal average.

Nahum Malik, a Tao Tech forecaster, explains in an interview with Israel Today.

"This means that if so far the winter has started badly, with below-average precipitation amounts, the trend is likely to change, and we will see a rise in winter over the next few months."

He added that "there may also be extreme weather events, such that the general amount of rain will not necessarily fall above average, under the auspices of a fairly extreme event or two."

As of this stage of the season, in November the amounts of rain were usually smaller than average, after October was also characterized by a lack of rainfall.

In general, according to the Meteorological Service, the amounts of rain since the beginning of the season are smaller than the average in all parts of the country and in many areas they reach less than 60% of the average for the corresponding period and even at least 40%.
