In the midst of a worsening security situation, Burkina Faso is getting a new government.

President Roch Kaboré fired his Prime Minister Christophe Dabiré after he officially submitted his resignation, which resulted in the dismissal of his cabinet.

The decision was read out without comment on the evening news of the crisis-ridden Sahel state.

In a statement, Dabiré called on citizens to "support President Kaboré and the new government that will be set up".

In the unity of action, the country can meet the challenges it is confronted with.

Burkina Faso is one of the poorest countries in the world and, with its 21 million inhabitants, is in a crisis because of climate change and increasing Islamist terror.

More than a million residents are considered internally displaced.

Many militias, some of which have sworn allegiance to the "Islamic State" (IS) or Al-Qaeda, operate across the borders with Mali and the Central African Republic.

Displeasure with the French military presence

French troops support the government, but French convoys have recently been blocked by protesters, including shots.

An incident occurred in late November in which several people were injured when French soldiers shot a crowd of protesters.

Displeasure with France's military presence, which began in neighboring Mali in 2013, is growing in the former colonial states.

Leading jihadists were killed after France intervened, but violence in the region intensified.
