Chinese researchers have developed a membrane that mimics the biological functions of extracting uranium from seawater.
Xinhua reported that a research team at the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry under the Chinese Academy of Sciences developed the membrane, which has extremely small pores.
There are more than 4 billion tons of uranium in sea water, which is about a thousand times more than what is found in uranium deposits on land, but current processes to extract it from sea water are not economically viable and not efficient enough to compete with uranium ore mining.
