DECRYPTION - The department of 300,000 inhabitants also has the highest positivity rate in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

For three weeks, the Ardèche has held the record for the incidence rate in France.

It went from 121 per 100,000 inhabitants at the beginning of November to 607 on December 1 and to 800 on Wednesday 8, according to Public Health France.

By comparison, the Rhône and its 1.8 million inhabitants, reached a rate of 447. The rate is so high that the white plan, now extended to the whole region, was activated at the Aubenas hospital. last November 25.

Why does a department of 330,000 inhabitants obtain such a high standard?

The positivity rate reached 9.3%, the highest in the entire Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, as did the screening rate reaching 6522. “

The Ardèche and the Rhône have the highest screening activities in the region.

», Explains Public Health France. However, the incidence rate for people over 65 remains average. This is explained by a vaccination in this age group in the national average, unlike the youngest. And especially among active age groups who travel to see the world and whose children go to school. Only 76% of 25-39 year olds received a dose compared to 87%, and 80% for 40-54 year olds compared to 90%. Note that the vaccination rate is lower than the national average (72.8% for the first injection against 77.1% in France).

There is a lower overall vaccination rate and the barrier gestures are slackening.

We see people arriving with symptoms that are often unvaccinated,

”reports Dr Alain Carillion, doctor in Bourg-Saint-Andéol.

His colleague, Sylvain Bouquet, who works in Lamastre "

in a white telephone zone

" adds that "

families of non-vaccinated people live together and pass it on to each other

".

For both, the relaxation of barrier gestures, with "

the impression that the department is less affected

", contributes to this high incidence rate.

"

The Ardèche is a bit like the Corsica of the continent

"

Since the start of the fifth wave, 90% of people positive for Covid have not been vaccinated,

” regrets Sylvain Bouquet. The department has historically rebelled against vaccination. "

This particularity results from a vaccine-skepticism quite common in certain Ardèche territories, and in particular in the south of the department, where the mere mention of the Cévennes summons up a colorful picture of protest movements which has its roots in the long times of history.

The Ardèche is a bit like the Corsica of the continent. It's a bit rebellious and reluctant to rule

"

The idea that to be vaccinated would be to submit to these different forms of domination, and by the same token that refusing to be vaccinated would be an act of resistance, is at the heart of the contemporary anti-vaccine movement which feeds on real facts, such as management awkwardness of the H1N1 influenza in 2009, but also conspiracy theories, such as the widespread idea that vaccines would in fact be used for the development of a global genocide

, ”underlines Lucie Guimier. “

It's the same for barrier gestures, I am constantly forced to police my waiting room so that people wear masks. My colleagues are seeing the same thing everywhere, it is quite difficult to encourage vaccination,

”continues Alain Carillion.

Nevertheless, "

with each turn of the screw of the government, people come to the vaccination

", rejoices his colleague Sylvain Bouquet who participated in the setting up of a device allowing the attending physician to vaccinate.

"

However, discussing vaccination with your GP can sometimes convince some recalcitrant parents to protect their children,

" added Lucie Guimier.
